WRITING COMPETITION “REFLECTIONS ON THE 13TH SOUTH CHINA SEA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

  1. INTRODUCTION:

The South China Sea is currently facing unprecedented challenges emerging from geopolitical competition, overlapping disputes among regional countries and non-traditional challenges such as pandemic, climate change. More than ever, there is urgent need for all countries to launch initiatives tackling issues, ensuring a cooperative and prosperous region. As the youth takes the pioneer role in working for a brighter future of global community, the Reflections on the 13th South China Sea International Conference writing competition launched in the Young Leaders Program create opportunities for young scholars in the region and globally to speak up their perspectives, share their unique initiatives contributing to addressing pressing issues that we are facing. 

Organized by: East Sea Institute for Maritime Studies, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.

2. CONTEST REQUIREMENTS:

ELIGIBILITY:

The contest invites all delegates and panelists joining the Young Leaders Program 2021 to participate.

Applicants can submit as an individual or as a team (consisting up to 2 candidates), the team must meet eligibility to participate the contest.

TOPICS: Choose 1 out of 5 topics to write a paper on:

Theme 1: Thirty years after the Cold War: Is another brewing and how to prevent one from breaking out into conflicts?

Theme 2: ASEAN and the QUAD in the regional architecture.

Theme 3: Disrupted supply chains: Ensuring resilient sea lanes amid Covid-19.

Theme 4: Promoting science diplomacy for common oceanic benefits.

Theme 5: The South China Sea in a shifting global landscape.

DEADLINE AND REQUIREMENTS

Submission by: 12 December 2021 (GMT+7)

Winner Announcement: 15 December 2021

Required DocumentEssay must be submitted and formatted in Microsoft Word with abstract:
– Essay: Maximum 1000 words
– Abstract: Maximum 150 words  
FontTime New Roman, 12 points 1.5 interlinear

PRIZES:

03 papers to be awarded[1]

01 Excellent Prize: 300 USD (non-tax inclusive)

02 First Prize: 100 USD/award (non-tax inclusive)

JUDGING

All eligible entries received will be assessed by a qualified panel of judges chosen by the organizers.

NOTICE

All requirements must be submitted electronically by the submission deadline via youngleadersprogram@dav.edu.vn.

Reference materials must be properly cited. About the plagiarism policy please refer to www.plagiarism.org.

Only original and unpublished essays will be considered for evaluation.
